Black Boy Review

Nocturnal Swots (by Nzube Ifechukwu)

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.

Nodding
craning, oil-sullied necks
contaminate eyes

Kneeling
sore pains seeping through knees
water-quench persistent blinks

Standing
knees sag
in lieu of lids

Strolling
somnambulists rare
as iroko faggots

Day, your light
Night, a brighter light
prodding nature’s pupil

(Nzube is a Nigerian poet)
